Welcome to the Teacher Round Table!
We are a group of educators in the Pioneer Valley (western Mass) who meet once a month to give close attention to a single piece of student work using a protocol called the Collaborative Assessment Conference (Seidel, 1991).
The work we look at comes from all grade levels, all types of school settings, and may represent any subject. We look at the work in order to practice honing our attention to what is there– the strengths and capabilities present in the work that we might not notice without extra time and perspective.
A close look at a single piece of student work helps us think about the many dimensions of learning and teaching; often, the details of the specific lead us to ideas and questions about teaching and learning in general. Using a protocol assures a level of respect for students and teachers and protects our time to think and reflect.
Our meeting are open to the public. You do not have to have any particular experience or prior knowledge to join in; the protocol is taught every time. PDPs are available if you attend 3+ meetings (ask for more information).
